Death of a Salesman is a tragedy played in the pressing reality and illusion of the modern society. In this drama, on one hand, Arthur Miller, by combining the realism, expressionism and post - expressionism, portrayed the character of Willy Loman, an unimportant salesman, who got nothing in busy work and died in the delusions. On the other hand, the playwright, through Willy＇tragedy, got insight into the essence of the cruel ＂ American dream＂, and revealed the emptiness of life in the modern society which values a person only by his wealth and the predicament in existence of modern people.
