The temporary dumping ground of Daya Bay took up 5 × 10^5 m^3 dredged sediments between May and June, 2003. The water body delamination was disturbed and suspended sediment level in seawater went up during the dumping operation. At the same time, the partial pollutants dissolved from the dredged sediment had some effect on the seawater quality. The disposal activity changed the seawater environment on which phytoplankton lived, decreased the phytoplankton species numbers, bio-diversity and evenness. The seawater quality and phytoplankton status recovered basically in a month after the disposal activity was over. The impact from dumping dredged materials on sedimentary ambient depended on the physical and chemical property of the dredged materials.
