Literary creation is the fulfillment of repressed wishes. Eugene O＇Neill, father of modem American drama is no exception. Both his personal experiences and the characters in his works show that O＇Neill has pronounced Oedipus Complex. By using such psychoanalytical concepts as repression, displacement and sublimation on the basis of Freudianism pertinent to literature, this paper intends to excavate, in great depth, the hidden motives of his dramatic career.
