Nida is one of the most famous translation theorists in the modern western linguistic academic field. His translation thought is a briliant precious stone in the treasure-house of western translation studies and its development is classified in this paper into five periods, each of which is discussed with focus on both his latest changed ideas about the importance of translation theory and his influence on China＇s translation studies.
