Textual Criticism on Custom in Archaic Times for "Laying Foundation" and "Making Sacrifice"

现代汉语中常用的“奠基”和“献身”两个词,来源于上古时期骇人听闻的习俗。这些习俗在中国古代文献中的记载并不多见,却见于商代考古发现,还大量见于世界各民族的习俗中。这反映了世界文化中相同的一面,让我们了解到一些鲜为人知的古代恶俗。

The two common phrases in modern Chinese, ＂laying foundation＂ and ＂making sacrifice＂, come from the shocking custom of archaic times. The custom, though not well recorded in classical Chinese literature, is found in archeologieal study of the Shang dynasty, as well as in the folk custom of various parts of the world. The similarity of the world culture reveals certain vicious custom of ancient time that is unfamiliar to us.
