There are many different explanations about the description of ＂in the great desert one straight plume of smoke＂ in the poem, A Mission to the Frontier, written by Wang Wei. The straightness of smoke is determined by the unique geography and climate in the northern and northwestern areas. Interpreters in the past often seek explanatory roots from ancient books, rarely considering the natural phenomena and general living knowledge, and result in their drawbacks.
