Sentence Stress and the Pitch of Modal Particles at the End of Sentence

本文通过实验分析重音位置与句末语气词音高变化的关系,结果表明,句重音对句末语气词的音高具有较大的影响。重音位于句首和句中时语气词为低平调;重音位于句末时,前字调为阴平、阳平则语气词为高降调,前字调为上声、去声则语气词为低平调。

In this paper the pitch change of modal particles at the end of sentence is analyzed experimentally when the stress is placed at the beginning, end and in the middle of the sentence in order to investigate whether the pitch of modal particles is affected by sentence stress. The result shows that sentence stress can affect the pitch of modal particles at the end of sentence evidently. When the stress is at the beginning and in the middle of the sentence, modal particles have low and flat tone. When the stress is at the end of the sentence, if the preceding syllable has high-level tone or rising tone, modal particles have high and rising tone, and if 3rd or 4th tone, modal particles have low and flat tone.
