English conduit metaphor constructed by Michael Reddy, the American cognitive linguist, has enriched the theoretical framework of conceptual metaphor of George Lakoff, and it has greatly contributed to the understanding of the mechanism of human thought and the nature of language communication. Some linguists have consequently started a heated discussion about the semantic problems caused by conduit metaphor from the point of view of language and culture.
