Relevance Theory on Translation: A Solution to "Cultural Default" in Literary Translation

阐述了文化缺省的成因,并运用关联理论中的最佳关联原则,对文学翻译中的文化缺省进行分析和重构,强调根据不同的认知语境采用不同的策略,实现原文作者的意图和再现原文的美学特质,以满足目的语读者的期待。

As a theory of language communication, relevance theory also provides literary translation with a theoretical framework dealing with cultural default. This paper firstly expounds on and further analyzes reasons for cultural default. Based on principle of optimum relevance, this paper suggests that the translator adopts different strategies according to different cognitive contexts to realize purpose of original-language authors and its aesthetic value and cater to expectation of target-language readers.
