GPR54(G-pwtein-coupled receptor 54) and kisspeptins are two groups of peptides in mammals and kisspeptins are the endogenous ligands of GPR54. Both of them play important roles in the onset of puberty. Mice lacking GPR54 fall to undergo puberty, while patients with loss-of-function mutations in GPR54 have idiopathic hypogonadotmpic hypogonadism. Animal experiments indicate that kisspeptins increase the release of gonadotropin via GPR54 and probably act directly on the hypothalamic luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone neurons.
