明代中晚期是中国古代小说的繁盛期,这一时期的小说突出表现了这一时期士人强烈的慕俗心态。其慕俗心态在小说中主要通过“极大热情地关注世俗生活”、“对金钱的向往之情”、“自身原始欲望的下意识满足”等三个方面呈现出来,产生这种慕俗心态的原因主要在于明代中晚期个性思想的张扬和当时尚利与奢侈的社会风气。
