乔治·艾略特是英国维多利亚时代最具哲学思想的女作家。她善于通过艺术创作来阐明自己的哲学主张,并把这种哲学主张与道德思想相结合,形成了自己的“人本宗教”道德观,表现为对旧宗教迷信、虚幻、褊狭、虚伪等的批判与否定,对宗教博爱、宽容、克已等特点的肯定与推崇。
George Eliot was a famous British woman writer in the Victoria age. She expounds her philosophical viewpoint in her works through artistic creation and her combination of philosophy with ethical ideology, thus forming her own ＂Human- oriented ethical view＂, which criticizes and negates the superstitious, illusional, narrow and hypocritical old religion, affirms and eulogizes religion＇s features of love, tolerance, self- restriction.
