Who was More Appreciative of Faulkner——The Early Faulkner Studies in the English World and China

1939年以前,福克纳在本国较少受到注意,即有研究者,实颇多误解和偏见。而此时的中国研究者却注意到了这位日后誉满全球的天才作家,对他作出了认真评价,成为福克纳最早的知音。本文梳理了早期福克纳研究及其在中国的情形,特别钩沉了学界多有忽视的施蛰存等先生的研究贡献。

Before 1939, William Faulkner attracted attention of only a few critics, whose criticisms were full of misunderstandings and prejudices. At the same time, Chinese researchers gave some serious reviews and began to appreciate Faulkner. This thesis investigates the early Faulkner studies in the English world and China, rediscovering Shi Zhecun＇s study of Faulkner which has been overlooked for a long time in the academic community.
