The Dunhuang text of Kongzi Jiayu (Confucian Family Talks) in the British Museum is the tenth, not the seventh, fascicle (juan), indicating that the text was divided differently in the early Ming dynasty from its modern text divisions, and that it possibly comprised 21 juan in all. However, the language, content and notes reveal that the Dunhuang manuscript is essentially the same as the modern text, with few differences. This makes it clear that the transmission of Kongzi Jiayu prior to the Tang dynasty was essentially stable, and there was no loss in textual structure. The distinction between the so-called Tang and Song dynasty texts has little significance.
