孔孟为政之道的核心是“为政以德”,主要体现在:君要遵守君道,政治上推行王道、倡导仁政德治;经济上实行养民、惠民、富民的政策;对外以和为贵,反对不义战争。臣要遵守臣道,忠君尊王;恪守名分;在德不在位。同时统治者还要掌握教民之道,以道、德、仁为内容,诗、礼、乐为形式教化百姓,使他们能自觉地服从统治。通过现代的诠释与改造,孔孟为政之道传统价值的精华在现代社会主义物质文明、精神文明、政治文明建设中可发挥积极作用。

The core of the doctrine of Confucius and Meneius on governing is ＂ruling country with virtue＂. They thought the monarch ought to observe the way of monarch, that is, promoting the kingly ways, leading the virtuous governance of benevolent government on the polities; carrying out the policies to keep the people alive, benefiting the people and making the people weallhy; cherishing the peace with foreign countries, opposing the unrighteous war. The ministers ought to observe the way of ministers, being royal to monarch and respectful to the king; carefully obeying their reputation; concerning the morals without earing too much about their positions. At the same time the rulers still know the way of teaching the people; with the contents of morals, virtuosity, benevolence and the form of poem, courtesy, music which could moralize the people, and then make them aware of selves to obey the rules. Some principles, standpoints, methods of the governance may be of help to the building of the socialist civilizations.
