《韩诗外传》在解析《诗经》与社会政治时,通过凤凰、河洛图书,自然灾害,社会现象,礼乐文化的一些神话传说,说明其与盛事气象和政治腐败的关联,而这些像的表达建立在儒家礼乐思想的基础上,具有劝谏用事与教化功能,体现了汉代学官的文化方式。其本身不具有神话创造意义,而是解读与文化资源调动运用,体现了学术思想的时代精神。

Han Shi Wai Zhuan （the Story of Han Poetry）, when interpreting The Book of Poetry and the society and polities, shows the links between the natural symptoms and the political corruptions by relating the myths like phoenix, the heavenly book, social phenomena and ceremonial culture. And these images in the Book of Poetry are created on the basis of the Confucian courtesy and music and possess the function of moral teaching. This reflects the cultural manners of the scholars in the Han Dynasty. T＇his book does not create myths, but reveals the time spirit of that period by interpreting and manipulating the cultural resources.
