This paper attempts to examine the spiritual world of Emperor Wu of Han (156 BC - 87 BC) by analyzing Jiao Si Gre,a collection of poetry popular in those days. Originally the eulogy of prospedty and description of sacrificial rites for geds,Jiao si Ge depicted ,at the will of the rider, the ease of divinity and the joyousness of man, reflecting the emperor' s yearning for an immortal life and assuming himself as a deity. It shows that the ambitious emperor craved for immortality while dreading death.
