柳宗元《捕蛇者说》中的异蛇究竟指什么蛇?有五步蛇、蝮蛇、银环蛇、泛指永州地区的毒蛇之说,也有人认为是虚构的。根据柳宗元的作品与永州的实际分析,异蛇是以五步蛇(蝮蛇)为基础综合加工的,是蒋氏与赋敛发生关系的重要媒介。

What does it mean by the unusual snake in Liu Zongyuan＇s Discourse of the Snake-Catcher？ Some people regard them as those poisonous snakes in Yongzhou region like the long-noded pit viper, the hundred pacer sharp-nosed viper and Taiwan banded krait,while others hold that it is nothing but a kind of fiction. In the study of Liu＇s works and the conditions of Yongzhou region,the author found that the unusual snakes are created on the base of Taiwan banded krait and function as a major medium between the jiangs（ the snake-catcher＇s family） and heavy taxes at that time.
