On the Tragical Ideas and Their Causes of the Four most Famous Folk Legends

作为民间悲剧的典型代表,《牛郎织女》、《孟姜女》、《梁山伯与祝英台》、《白蛇传》这四大传说积淀着民众深沉的悲剧意识。四大传说渗透的悲剧意识集中体现为浓重的爱情悲剧意识和高扬的悲剧精神两个方面。四大传说悲剧意识的生成与民众低下的社会地位和民间文学的孕育密切相关。

As the typical representatives of the folk tragedies, the four most famous Legends, namely, The Cowherd and the Girl Weaver, Meng Jiangnyu, Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai and Tale of the White Snake, were the sediment of the deep people＇s tragical ideas. Their tragical ideas concentratedly reflected in two sides： the strong love-tragical idea and the vigorously tragical spirit. The tragical idea＇s resultant of the four most famous folk legends was closely related to the popular lower social status and the breeding of folk literature.
