Inflammation signal mediated by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is transduced into cells by a transmembrane protein of Toll-like receptor 4(TLR4), resulting in a series of cytological effect. Some new progress in the signal transduction pathway has been made in recent years. This article summarizes the main extracellular molecules in the signal transduction pathway such as LPS、LBP(lipopolysaccharide binding protein)、CD14、TLR4 and MD-2 (Myeloid differentiation-2), and the interactions among of these molecules. It is just the interaction of these molecules that activates TLR4 and triggers the signal transduction.
