中国书籍自产生以来,在几千年的悠悠岁月中,其材料、形态和生产方法,也就是书籍制度,有过几次巨大的变化,先后经历了简策制度、卷轴制度和册叶制度三个不同阶段。而篇、卷、册作为这三个不同阶段的书籍计数单位,则从一个侧面透示了其演进的轨迹,体现了各自的特点。

Since Chinese book came into being, its material, shape and methods of production, namely its system has gone through some huge changes in several thousand years . It has passed through three different phases successively ： bamboo slip system, scroll system and volume system. Being as the enumerative units of book in three different stages, bamboo script, roll and volume reveal their track of evolution from one side and incarnate their own features.
