圆锥指数ＣＩ（ＣｏｎｅＩｎｄｅｘ）作为土壤机械强度的一个综合指标已为国内外广泛应用。文章系统地阐述了测量圆锥指数ＣＩ的土壤圆锥仪在国内外的发展概况。研制了一种用微型电动机作贯入动力，用计算机控制的机械式圆锥仪，实现了对圆锥仪贯入过程的自动控制，包括自动启动贯入系统，自动记录和分析测试结果，到达规定测深和遇到异常情况时自动停止贯入。该仪器还有上下限位系统和手动控制系统。测试结果表明，该仪器测试可靠，可用于室内土槽和野外土壤测试。
