埃德加.爱伦.坡在作品中对女性的奇异刻画巩固了他作为“神秘恐怖的奇异故事的缔造者”的名声,其作品中许多轻妙脱俗的女性常常经历恐怖的死亡,她们或被活埋,或被损毁,或遭受精神吞噬。文章根据自体心理学相关理论证明坡是一位自恋型人格障碍者,其自恋型人格由他幼年时的创伤性经历引起,并极大地影响了他的文学创作。他的女性短篇小说如《贝蕾尼斯》、《莉吉娅》、《莫瑞拉》、《厄舍古屋的倒塌》都是他自恋心理的产物。

Edgar Allan Poe＇s weird treatment of women in his writings has reinforced his reputation as ＂a creator of weird tales of mystery and terror＂. Many ethereal beautiful women in his fiction often experienced horrible death： premature burial, mutilation or psychic cannibalization. Referring to the theory of the self-psychology school, this paper testifies that Poe is a man suffering narcissistic disorder caused by the traumatizing experience in his early childhood and his tales of women such as ＂Berenice＂, ＂Ligeia＂, ＂Morella＂, ＂The Fall of the House of Usher＂, are all born from his narcissistic psyche.
