Probe of the Translation in Pre-Qin Period

我国是一个多民族不断融合的大国,从新石器时代开始,不同言语的各族群在交融分合中产生了言语翻译的需要,而最早的翻译记载是在商朝时,到周朝时已设有翻译机构和人员。从翻译人员及翻译活动的不同称呼,可知先秦翻译的艰难。

China is a big country of many nationalities integrating together constantly. Started from Neolithic Age, there was a need of translation for the nationalities of different languages during their integration and separation. Yet the earliest record of translation was in Shang Dynasty, and there were translation organizations and translation staff up to Zhou Dynasty. It can be inferred from the different titles of the translation staff and translation activities that the translation in Pre-Qin period is hard.
