唯美主义作为一种文艺思潮,在十九世纪末遽然兴起,然而它的衰亡也极其迅速,在文艺界有如昙花一现。而它的发起人之一奥斯卡.王尔德历来深受评论界的关注。王尔德的名作《道连.葛雷的画像》和《莎乐美》分别从不同侧面反映了作家的唯美主义观念。两篇作品的主人公均是唯美主义的典型,唯美主义的死亡从他们的死亡过程中可见一斑。而王尔德本人更是对自己信奉的唯美主义身体力行,他的一些行为被当时的道德观所唾弃,最终客死异乡。

It was just like a flash in the world of literature and art, One of the initiator, Oscar Wilde, has been noticed with great attention by the critics. Oscar Wilde＇s famous books ＂The Picture of Dorian Gray＂ and ＂Salome＂ mirror the writer＇ s aesthetic idea in different aspects. The hem and heroin of the two works are both typical aesthetic figures. The death of aestheticism can be seen clearly in their dying process. And Wilde earnestly practiced the aestheticism he advocated. Some of his acts were east aside by the moral in his time,which at last led to his death in a strange land.
