Claudins is a family of integral membrane tight junction （TJ） proteins. The tissuespecific expressions of claudin proteins perform specialized epithelial or endothelial functions including maintenance of cell polarity and paracellular barrier functions. Many researches indicate that abnormal expression of claudins has a close relationship with tumors and multiple signaling pathways may involve in the regulation of their expressions. Claudins＇ specific functions offer an area ripe for harvesting tumor markers as well as therapeutic targets.
