The ESR and optical absorption spectra of γ-irradiated silicate glasses were studied by means of introducing TiO2 and Si powder into glasses. On the basis of experimental results, the corresponding correlation between different types of defect centers and induced optical absorption bands, as well as induced ESR lines have been found out.As a kind of strong reducing reagent, silicon powder could remove the γ-induced visible optical absorption of silicate glasses markedly. The concentration of color centers in silicate glass was mainly dominated by that of trapped-hole centers. In addition, it was found that to some extent the induced absorption at 620nm could be reduced by Ti3+ ions in glass.
