In this novel, the mother＇s complex love has caused Erica＇s mental disorder and breaking up of marriage. The miserable fate of the mother and daughter is caused by the combination of abnormal family structure, wrong notion of education, morbid personality as well as their tragic destiny. Her human nature as well as her love has been distorted. Through the exaggerated and distorted stories, the author displayed how cruel reality is and how helpless the hero is.
