Faulkner＇ s novel The Wild Palms was cut apart in publication for more than thirty years, due to the failure to understand its form that is structured by musical counterpoints. While the case of being cut apart is traced, the article testifies to the masterful employment of the counterpoint with evidences. Thematically it studies the female protagonist Charlotte and comments on the tragic love of her and Harry as a result of their seeking for freedom but overlooking responsibility.
