新史料求证严复的翻译思想——从发展的角度看“信、达、雅”的包容性和解释力

Yan Fu's Real Intention in Light of New Historical Materials:The Capacity and Interpretation of xin,da,ya in Perspective of Development

对比新的史料发现,“信、达、雅”的意义与传统上的理解稍有出入,严复的本意应该加以澄清。对严复“本意”的考证虽不免会有一些臆猜的成分,但根据新的翻译事实并以发展的眼光不断增强其译论的包容性和解释力,无疑是有积极意义的。严复的翻译实践印证了他的翻译思想,其精髓确有有效指导翻译实践的作用。中国传统译论与西方译论有颇多契合之处,且往往殊途同归。

In light of new historical materials, we have come to the conclusion that people have somewhat distorted xin, da, ya, the standards of translation put forward by the well-known translator Yan Fu. Even though the textual research of the socalled real intention may be prejudiced, it is still meaningful to enlarge the capacity of Yan Fu＇s standards and to strengthen their interpretations in terms of development and new practices. Yan Fu＇s translation practices justified his views and the essence of his views is really workable in translating. The traditional Chinese theories on translations are in line with their Western counterparts which often draw the same or similar conclusions.
