Poetry of Architecture——Probing into the Essence of Decoration by a Window

经历了现代主义狂风暴雨般的洗礼,装饰被打上了罪恶的烙印。尽管如此,装饰本身在表达建筑的内在美或强调重点时起了十分重要的作用,有助于表现建筑的性格特征。本文以一扇中国古典木质窗的格扇花饰为载体,探求装饰的精神实质,期待让更多的人认识到装饰在建筑上扮演的重要角色。

After being heavily rejected in some modem architecture, decoration is thought to be sin. But it was employed either for its inherent beauty or to emphasize some point of importance in the building. Decoration may be used to contribute to character, the visible expression of the purpose of the architecture. Decoration is not always sin. This paper try to discover the essence of traditional decoration in one window made of wood in china, with the hope to acknowledge the important roles decoration has been playing in architecture.
