Tess and Sara, who are compared and analyzed in temrs of feminism here, are the two female Victorian characters created by Thomas Hardy and John Fowles. Tess＇s passive revolt and compromise to the fate led to her tragic ending; whereas Sara＇s passionate revolt with initiative impelled her to break the moral shackles in patriarchal society and became an independent new woman.
