Francois Baudouin was one of French humanistic theorists, and a forerunner of the French ＂methods of history＂. His work was the first serious attempt in France to formulate a definition of history. His conception of ＂integral history＂ not only provides a link between humanist jurisprudence and the history of institutional study and society, but also enhances the scope of historiography. Therefore, Baudouin deserves an important place in the tradition of the Western historiography.
