The Bible is not only a book of religious doctrine, it is also a resplendent pearl in the treasure-house of world literature, and the source of British and American literature. Many famous works are associated with it. Some of them interpret and praise the Bible and some criticize it. Starting with Shakespeare, Hawthorn, Melville, and William Faulkner, this article explores the relationship between the Bible and British and American literature.
