The Road to Freedom——An Interpretation of Erich Fromm's Thought about Freedom

现代人逃避自由的原因和自由增长过程有其辨证性的特征:一方面,人的力量不断增强;另一方面,人的孤独感和不安全感也日益增强,而现代社会的经济、政治和日常活又不能满足人与世界、与他人建立和谐关系以克服孤独感和不安全感。现代人为克服孤独感和不安全感选择了逃避自由,逃避是不能根本消除不全感和孤独感的,只有通过自我实现才是通向自由之路。

There is a dialectical relationship between modem man＇s escaping from freedom and the increasing of freedom. On the one hand, the power of man is increasing. On the other hand, his sense of isolation and insecurity is also growing. The economy, politics and daily life in modem society cannot meet the need of man to establish a harmonious relationship with the world, and with other people. To overcome the sense of isolation and insecurity, he chooses to escape from freedom, while escaping is not the solution. The only road to freedom is through self-realization.
