A Global Perspective of the Independence of Social Sciences in China

从中国社会科学发展史来看,关于“中国社会科学自主性”的讨论有着重大意义,它标志着中国社会科学模仿式形成阶段的结束,因而这场讨论可能对中国社会科学的发展有着转折性的意义。中国社会科学自主性的建构要消除规范化、科学化与本土化、中国化之间的二元对立,中国社会科学应该是一种“地方全球化”知识,它来自于“普遍主义的特殊化和特殊主义的普遍化”的双向推动。而且,中国社会科学自主性必须是一种全球意义上的自主性,这牵涉到全球不同地域之间和国内不同场域之间错综复杂的互动。

In a historical perspective, the great significance of the discussion on social sciences in China consists in the fact that it symbolizes the termination of its shaping stage of imitation, so this inquiry may manifest itself as a turning-point for the social sciences in China. The constructive independence of social sciences requires the elimination of the dualistic antithesis between standardization/scientificization and locahzation/Chinahzation. And it ought to be the knowledge of local-globalization originating from the two-way promotion of the particularization of universalism and the universalization of particularism. Additionally, the independence of social sciences in China must be achieved in the background of globalization, which involves sophisticated interactions of different regions across the world and complex interactions of different fields at home.
