“八荣八耻”社会主义荣辱观的提出反映了我国社会转型时期的鲜明时代特征,回答了当前人们普遍关注的社会现实问题;通过对“热爱祖国、服务人民、崇尚科学、辛勤劳动、团结互助、诚实守信、遵纪守法、艰苦奋斗”基本内容的全面解读,揭示了社会主义荣辱观的科学内涵和实质;强调了在新形势下树立社会主义荣辱观是贯彻落实以人为本的科学发展观的本质要求。

＂Eight Honors and Eight Disgraces＂, as the socialist honor-disgrace viewpoints suggested by President Hu Jintao, reflect distinctly the characteristics of the present period of social transform and answer the questions of social reality that is extensively concerned. An all-round interpretation is thus given to the main connotation of the viewpoints, i. e., love our motherland, serve the people, uphold science, work hard, be united and help each other, be honest and trustworthy, be disciplined and law-abiding and know plain living and hard struggle, thus revealing scientifically the essence of socialist honordisgrace viewpoints.
