Taking the rail transit projects of the cities of Beijing and Guangzhou for example, this article gives a detailed description of the methodology of budget estimate making for the prefabrication and erection of full span box girders of heavy tonnage before pointing out that it is not practical nor scientif- ic to blindly copy the ratings of local municipal works. Whereas the railway engineering norms should be borrowed so as to achieve the end of reasonably determining the engineering cost according to the specific technology and construction methods employed.
