太平天国时期的粤勇

Yueyong in the Period of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom

太平天国起义以后,清政府的八旗兵、绿营兵屡战屡败,于是派出众多官员回籍办理团练、召募乡勇,与太平军对抗,粤勇随之产生。粤勇是清王朝镇压太平天国的重要武装。粤勇没有出色的领袖人物,未能像湘勇成为湘军、淮勇成为淮军那样,在中国近代史上产生重大影响,但在太平天国时期,粤勇也是一支不可忽视的力量。

In the Taiping rebelling, Eight Banners and Luying repeatedly fought and lost. So the Qing government ordered lots of officials to go home to recruit villagers to fight against Taiping Army. Yueyong was such an informal armed force. And it was an important force against Taiping Army. Without distin- guished leaders, Yueyong didn＇t bring most important influence on Chinese history, but Xiang Army and Wai Army did. Still, in Taiping rebellion, Yueyong couldn＇t be ignored.
