LUO Jia-lun and the Study of Modern Chinese History

罗家伦是近代中国颇有影响的政学两栖型人物。在中国近代史研究领域,他不仅在理论上率先论证近代史研究的意义、必要性,立志写一部科学的近百年中国历史,而且身体力行,积极收集、整理、编纂近代史史料,留下了大量的近代史研究著述。客观地说,和蒋廷黻一样,罗家伦也是中国近代史研究的重要倡导者与实践者,是中国近代史研究领域的开山者。

In modem China, LUO Jia-lun was an influential figure both in political circle and academia. LUO discussed the meaning and the necessity of studying modem Chinese history in theory and laid a course of writing ＂scientific universal Chinese history of the latest century＂. Furthermore, he collected, classified and compiled historical data and wrote much composition in practice. Luo＇s effort indicated that, he and JIANG ting-fu both were important advocators, practitioners and pioneers in studying modem Chinese history.
