The COTC 7 sponsored by Xiwang Consulting Service Co.,Ltd. was convened from April 18 to 19, 2006 in Nanjing, andnearly 300 people attended this annual conference. Centeringaround the theme of "how to put in place a market-oriented oilmarket system in China", COTC 7 took a close look at the supplyand demand at the global petroleum market and the status quo andprospects of development of the Chinese oil market, and exploredthe policy environment faced by the Chinese oil industry and theapproaches for market development. The conference analyzedsupply and demand and the status quo and prospects of developmentof the global energy market, and revealed the bottlenecks hinderingthe development of production capacity at the upstreaminfrastructure along the middle level and the oil refinery capacityat the downstream links of the oil supply chain. COTC 7 also tooka close review of the status quo and development trends of thefinished oil consumption by the traffic and transportation industries(including railway, aviation, road and water transport industries).The demand for gasoline, kerosene and diesel oil by the traffic andtransportation sectors as a percentage of the total is expected to risefrom 60% in 2001 to 79% by 2010 and 84% by 2020. Theconference discussed the objectives and procedures for the marketdevelopment along the upstream link of the oil chain in China, andtheo il diversifications trategy( diversificationi n theo il-producingareas, types of oil products, means of oil procurement, means oftransportation and market players), as well as the prospects ofdevelopment of and problems faced by alternative energy sources.
