谈《红字》宗教意识压抑下的人性之光

On the Rays of Humanity Constrained by Religious Consciousness in Scarlet Letter

美国著名作家霍桑的《红字》以一个犯罪—赎罪—得救的宗教性故事,向世人昭示了上帝的宽容与慈悲以及惩恶扬善的力量,但我们从三位主要人物所走过的赎罪道路中可以清楚地看到,人性的善恶是如何鲜明地在他们身上各自不同的表现出来,正是这种在宗教意识压抑下所迸发出的人性之光,体现了近代西方文学中的主导意识。

By means of a religious story of offence , atonement and being saved in his novel Scarlet Letter , Hawthorne, a famous American writer, declares the power of God＇s leniency, mercy and punish evil-doers and encourage people to do good publicly. However, through the three leading roles＇way of atonement, we can clearly find how the goodness and evil of humanity be embodied strikingly. And only because of the rays of humanity constrained by religious consciousness, can the dominant consciousness of modern western literature be embodied.
