At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, the Guangzhou Press Association aclively safeguarded the rights of the press, fully expressed the public opinion, promoted the union of the newspapers nationwide, and enlarged the scale of national press association. As a result, the Guangzhou Press Association became a very influential society of the time. Its organization and activities reflected the thinking and acts of the press then and represented the expansion of the civil social forces. It is an important area for studying modem interaction between the state and the society.
