The west coast of Italy boasts some memorable cruising grounds, including the Costiera Amalfitana, which rises abruptly from the sparkling Med and plays host to a series of stunning ports-of-all. On the south side of the mountainous Sorrento peninsula, just round the corner from Naples, the Costiera Amalfitana faces the sun across the glittering Gulf of Salerno. Even for Italy this dramatic spur of Campania has extravagant landscapes. Seen from offshore ,the Amalfi coast seems to rise sheer from the sea, with scattered villages clinging to the cliffs.
