克孜尔石窟是我国现存最早的大型佛教石窟寺遗址,其壁画以大量的本生故事和佛传故事为主。对其进行分析,可以探讨克孜尔壁画的意义。古龟兹地区与新疆以东的中原地区及以西的犍陀罗等区域内的佛传故事有差异,差异的原因有地域的差异,亦有历史和民族的差异以及和佛教的传播和流行的佛教宗派有关。

Buddhist？ Grottos of Kizil is now the earliest grotto temples in our country. It is a very important Buddhist relic for it provides us with valuable information on the research of Buddhism, Buddhist history and its related political, economical and cultural issues of central Asia and its neighboring areas. The essay studies the murals of Sakyamuni＇s stories in Kizil, and concludes that the murals of such stories in the ancient Qiuzi centered around Kizil are different from those in the central part of China in the East and other areas in the West. The differences can be explained as the disparity of terrain, the historical and ethnic background, and the different Buddhist sects and various ways of Buddhist dissemination.
