Exploring Laozhuang's View of Life and Death

无数的事实说明,人们越不安于死之必至的命运,其承受的内心痛苦也就越大,因为,死亡的降临决不会因为人们的不愿意而改变。在说服人们安于必死之“命”的方面,中国古代的道家学者有着非常丰富的思想资源。其基本观念是:人们超越生死、获得临终前心安坦荡的关键,在觉解生死之本质,从根本上意识到自我之生死皆由“命”而定,非人力所能改变。

The main purpose of this paper is to survey Laozhuang＇ s ＂An Zi Ruo Ming＂ wisdom on life and death . Innumerable facts show that the more irrelievedly one accept the fact that death is doomed to come , the more pain one will suffer because the befalling of death won＇ t change with man＇ s willing . Chinese ancient Taoist scholars possessed abundant thought resourses on persuading people relievedly accept the fate that everyone is doomed to die . Their fundamental piont of view is that the key of people surpassing the life and death and gaining the calm and peaceful feeling on his deathbed is that people should perceive the essence of life and death and realize cardinally that people＇ s life and death are both determined by fate , not changed by manpower.
