《教堂司事》是英国著名小说家毛姆笔下的作品,体现出了他对19世纪英国教育体制和教堂体制的批判及对人文精神的倡导。运用马克思主义文学批评理论分析这部作品,既要揭示出作品所反映的19世纪英国新兴资产阶级与旧教堂势力的冲突,以及作者对英国新兴资产阶级所具有的创造力的肯定;同时也应指出毛姆作品的阶级局限性所在。
This is an interpretation of The Verger by W. Somerset Maugham from Marxism and New Historieism view with aims not only to reveal the author＇ s criticism on the school and church systems of his time and the wisdom of lower - class people, but make it evident that The Verger is a miniature of the development of the English society by putting the above analysis in the social background of the development of English churches.
