Hong Kong tycoon Li Ka-shing is referred to as 'Superman' in Chinese business community, not only because of the business empire he rules, but also his personal charm. Humble, polite, diligent, devoted to family and always willing to help, these personal characters shape the 'Superman' an image more powerful than his smart business insights. In April, over thirty high-profile entrepreneurs from the Mainland visited Li Ka-shing in Hong Kong, as a bonus course for the China CEO Program with Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business. The meeting with Li Ka-shing leaves all attendants an impression which is claimed to benefit them for a life long. An interesting comparison might be the two occasions when Chinese entrepreneurs met the Star CEO of General Electricity (GE) Jack Welch in May 2000 and July 2004 respectively. Questions to Welch we-re more focusing on globalization and diversification and some local enterprises which aimed to follow GE's diversification path seemed to miss the major part of the lectures and collapsed. Examples include the private financial investment company D'long Group and the medicine conglomerate Sanjiu Group. However, mainland entrepreneurs' questions to Li Ka-shing are far more wide-ranged and go beyond the business scope to private issues like how to educate children and life philosophy.
