A Tentative Discussion on the Cultural Figurative Meanings of Plants' Names and Their Expressions and Chinese Translation

植物名称及其习语的文化喻义是在人类漫长的历史发展过程中所形成的,它是整个人类文化的一部分。由于民族差异、语言与思维模式差异,它们在不同语言中所表现出来的文化喻义也不同。通过讨论英语中这类植物名称与习语的文化喻义与汉译,可以揭示其中文化喻义存在的渊源及其在跨文化交际中的可译性。

The cultural figurative meanings of plants＇ names and their expressions are formed in the long development process of haman history. Because of national difference and that of language and thinking model, they have cultural figurative meanings different from those of other languages. This paper puts stress on the cultural figurative meanings of plants＇ names and their expressions in English and their Chinese translation so as to reveal the very origin of the existent cultural figurative meanings and their translatability in intercultural communication.
