An Insight into Polysystem Theory through the Case of the Domestication in LIN Shu's Translation

以色列学者Even-Zohar建立的多系统理论对解释文学翻译中归化策略的选择提供了令人耳目一新的见解。通过林纾在翻译时使用的归化式翻译策略,考察了多系统理论的适用性,指出多系统理论在考察翻译策略时,只注意到文化地位等客观因素,而忽略了译者的主体性和读者的文化心理等主观因素。

Polysystem theory, brought forward by Israel scholar Itmar Even - Zohar, offers a new and fresh insight into domestication in translation. Taking Lin Shu＇s domesticated translation as an example, this article examines the applicability of Polysystem and concludes that Polysystem theory pays attention only to some objective factors such as cultural position of literary translation while studying the reasons for the choice of domestication and ignores subjective factors such as the cultural psychology of translator and readers.
